This is my newest design for Interweave Knits, Summer 2015.
Preview of Interweave Knits Summer 2015 is uploaded almost two months before season. I spend difficult time to figure it out my internet connection problems and had to delete former posts. Since I got this domain ‘marialeigh.net’, I didn’t write up post much. So,I just lost under 20 posts.
About Larkspur shawl, it’s garter base shawl has crescent shape with simple garter lace edging inspired from wild flowers on the field. It’s top down shawl and it means this shawl has over 300 CO stitch numbers. But, here’s a small tip. Edging has multiple of 10 repeats. If you want to make larger or smaller size shawl, easily add or except multiple of 10 stitch numbers when you start cast on.
I did image googling for Larkspur. Delphinium is another name of this beautiful flowers. Korean name of this flower has cute meaning. it’s little hood of swallow.
The Larkspur Shawl is a narrow top-down crescent shaped with simple short-rows—no need to hide the wraps in garter stitch. A perpendicular garter lace edging is worked across the bottom.

Maria, I’m having a hard time understanding the directions for the Edging. I’ve repeated the body shawl as instructed, have 21 unworked stitches on both ends and I’ve knit to the end on the last row. So, at this point I have on my needle 21sts+21sts+all the stitches in between on my circular needle. The instructions for the Edging say to work rows 1-10 of the chart 60 times. Am I supposed to repeat the edging stitches completely across all 300+ stitches, 60 times? Or, do I only work the number of stitches in the chart turning after working 20 – 24 stitches like I did in the body, wrapping and turning short rows? The chart is confusing where it shows the symbol and the instructions of: k2tog (1 st from body and 1 st from edging), turn. I’m sorry I just don’t follow. Can you clarify?
Okay. I will try to explain as easy as possible. You know, English is my second language. It might be need some time. 🙂
This is a neck down (aka top down) shawl. So, if you done all w&t, it means body section is over. Now you have total 344sts on your needle including 21 unworked sts on each side.
20 sts on the right side edge – 304 sts on the body (main or center) – 20 sts on the left side edge.
Edging is start right corner on RS facing.
you should work to last st of edge, then last st of the edge with 1st st of the body knit together(k2tog).
You can see the ‘red slash(/) on the chart. Red slash means last st of the edge with first st of the body together. Then turn.
1 of the body st is decreased. 1 of the edge st is increased.
Row 3(RS): Work to last st of edge , then last st of edge with 1st st of the body knit together(k2tog). Then turn.
1 of the body st is decreased. 1 of the edge st in increased.
Please work in this manner until 44 sts rem.
edge st numbers are changing 20 to 24. But, body st numbers are decreasing every other row.
Hope it’s understandable for you.
